As the studio starts to calm down after a frantic fortnight of bug fixes, build polish and trailer capture, it means gamescom in Cologne is finally upon us!
It’s a busy one for Blackwood Crossing this week, starting with a new trailer coming tomorrow, timed for the opening of gamescom. The trailer takes a closer look at the relationship between orphaned siblings, Scarlett and Finn. And shares a glimpse of some of the game’s other environments and characters.
Then there’s the small matter of interviews and demos with around fifty journalists at the expo, including a streamed session on Twitch. It’s our first hands-on demos of the game with press, and safe to say the nerves are starting to build! As a small indie studio this kind of buzz and exposure isn’t an everyday occurrence and we hope to grab the opportunity with both hands.
It’s hugely exciting to get the build ready for wider viewing, and we’re really proud to be taking it to Cologne.
Demos are a funny beast though. You have to do them – you want to do them. But they definitely interrupt the flow of development, and often come at the time the team are working super hard to get the final parts of the game finished. So you take deep breaths, keep the numerous tasks and tweaks ticking over on the whiteboard, and accept that what the schedule said you would be working on at times has to make way for prioritising unexpected issues.
Doesn’t matter if you’re a team of 100 or a team of 10, the story’s the same it seems!
You then hope that you‘ll do the team justice and present the game as well as possible to the press and the public. No pressure then 😉
